WebMay 17, 2024 · I have an edelbrock 1406 that when i dump the clutch it bogs and stumbles really bad. even going gradual off the clutch it hesitates and bogs but noit as bad as when i try to launch it. My set up is a muncie m20 with a 2.73 gear in the back. I changed the step up springs in the carb to match my vacuum. And i put a 1470 accelerator pump in ... WebJun 13, 2006 · That 750 carb is big for that motor. A hesitation off idle is a fact of life with big carbs on small motors. When you open the throttle fast, it takes time to build vacuum in the venturi. The carb can't pull fuel from the main circuit without a vacuum in the venturi.

If you are not altering the timing when you punch it, you will bog down, then jump right up. Some distributors are meant to use Ported vacume, while others are meant to use Manifold vacume. Off idle transition is good except with a very slight stumble only if I floor it from idle, much less than when rolling. Motor pulls clean to 6K, haven't tried taking it higher. I think it is hesitating on the transition to secondarys. Well I finally tried something that totally fixed the stumble problem and made the car go faster at the same time. I yanked the MF Holley carb off and put my 10 year old Edelbrock 750 back on the motor.

Go to the Edelbrock website and print off the users manual for thier carbs. Then use the metering rod settings for the 1405 carb, not the 1406.
